After breakfast, we cross the river in our transfer vehicle to visit Fort Margherita, built by Charles Brooke in 1879 and named after his bride, Ranee Margaret. The fort’s cannons were trained on the river, both a traffic route and a possible source of an enemy attack. After substantial renovations, it is now a museum of Brooke memorabilia that has a fascinating overview of the white Rajah dynasty in a beautifully restored fort. Climb up to the roof of the old fort for a spectacular view of urban Kuching from the other side of the Sarawak River. The morning tour ends with a transfer back to your hotel.
