About Your Guide

All our dives are guided by experienced dive professionals (PADI) who will ensure that your dive is safe, fun, and that you will see as many of the exciting marine species in the area as possible.

What you’ll see and do:

After an early morning pickup at 7.30 a.m., meet and greet by the dive-master at the Santubong boat jetty. Signing in is at the boat house as Registration Divers must present their certification cards and sign the related PADI documents. After a short safety briefing and gear fittings, the dive boat departure is at 8.30 a.m. for a one hour boat trip to the wreck sites. We decide on two of the three wrecks, ie. Katori Maru, Hiyoshi Maru and Sagiri. All the three wrecks serve as an underwater home to a wide variety of pelagic fish species:

  • Katori Maru – Troopship is a multi-level dive where you’ll admire jacks & barracudas patrolling, with snappers & groupers below. Schools of fusilier will gush around you as you observe swarms of chromis, spiny lobsters & batfish.
  • Hiyoshi Maru – Troopship is home to nudibranchs & its natural predator – the grouper. You’ll watch schools of barracudas, sea bass, spiny lobsters & nurse sharks swim around the wreck.
  • Sagiri – Destroyer is mostly intact, though due to its depth & lower visibility, it requires an advanced certification.

The tour includes 2 boat dives of around 45 minutes per dive. Light snacks and drinks are served on board between the dive for a surface interval on a boat of minimum 1 hour 30 minutes. We surface after the 2nd boat dive at around 12.45 p.m. and prepare to depart for the mainland. With the majestic Mount Santubong as our maker, the boat arrives back at the jetty where you can freshen up and shower to get ready for departure back to the city. The drop off back to your hotel is around 15.00 p.m. to complete an exciting day of Borneo dive adventure.

Good to Know

  • Please be aware that travellers who took the anti-malaria drug called ‘Lariam’ (mefloquine) are not allowed to take part in scuba diving, as this prophylaxis has side effects that can imitate and worsen symptoms of decompression illness!!!
  • Dive Boat is equipped with twin outboard engines, Global Positioning System (GPS), depth finder, life jacket, air tank holders, entry-exit ladder, life buoys, first aid kit and emergency oxygen unit.
  • All certified divers name and certification number is compulsory (Advanced Open Water Dive Certification).
