Our first day in Kuching we visited Bako National Park. What untouched beauty. Our guide Alex Wee was exceptional not only did he educate us about proboscis monkeys, flying lemurs, pit vipers, macaques and other animals found at the park but we saw the different carnivorous plants at the parks. He tailored our hiking so we could see the animals and admire the fauna. Alex is an amazing animal spotter so kudos to him for pointing out camouflaged animals to us.

What sets this tour apart
Experience the unspoiled beaches and pristine jungle on this all-inclusive trekking adventure from Kuching, with two amazing nights in one of the most remote national parks in Sarawak.
What You'll Do
Tanjung Datu National Park, located in the most westerly tip of Borneo, is one of Sarawak’s less accessible national parks, but its relative remoteness is one of its main attractions. Enjoy the white sandy beaches and untouched forest trails that are rich in a variety of wildlife including long-tailed macaque monkeys, civet cats, bearded pigs and last but not least, the highly endangered green turtles that regularly lay their eggs on the park’s beaches from April to September.
After pickup from the city hotel, take a 2-hour transfer with a short stopover at Sematan town (for last minute shopping). Reach Kampong Telok Melano, a traditional fishing village, which lies close to Tanjung Datu National Park. From the village, we take a 20 minute local boat into Tanjung Datu National Park. After registration at the Park HQ and a quick picnic lunch at the beach hut, visit the turtle hatchery (established to protect and monitor turtle eggs) and learn about local turtle conservation programs at the park gallery. Take a guided jungle trek along a loop trail and keep a look out for wildlife through the pristine forest. Admire the views before walking back along the beach to the park HQ. The rest of the day is at your own leisure! Relax and unwind for a few idyllic hours on your own private beach, surrounded by peaceful scenery and the soothing sound of the waves. Enjoy the freedom to swim, sunbathe, or simply take in the tranquil atmosphere at your own pace. Enjoy dinner at the park prepared by your guide as there is no cafeteria but only basic cooking facilities. After dinner, venture on a guided night walk (subject to weather conditions) or relax and retire for the night. The night walk aims to catch sight of the park’s nocturnal creatures which includes the shy Civet Cat (if we are very lucky), wild boar, sambar deer and barking deer before returning to the park. The guided night walk offers an opportunity to spot the park’s nocturnal wildlife, such as wild boar, sambar deer, and barking deer. With luck, visitors might even catch a glimpse of the elusive Civet Cat.
The walk’s duration is dependent on weather conditions, typically lasting between 20 minutes to one hour. Please note that the night walk may be cancelled in windy weather due to the risk of falling branches.
Overnight at the camping / forest hut shelters with mattress and mosquito netting. During the night, should any turtle come ashore to nest, regardless of any time during the night, the park warden will alert the guests to watch the turtles but only when they have started laying eggs. Please note turtle sightings are normally from April to September.
The next day, you may choose to take a boat transfer out or enjoy the final 4 km trek along the beautiful coastline back to Telok Melano. Please note that if you choose to trek out (2-3 hours), you will be trekking with your own backpacks, so bring only essential items. Large backpacks, rucksacks, or luggage are not recommended, as there will be no supporting boat on standby.
After breakfast and some time to relax by the beach, pack up and begin the return trek (approximately 2–3 hours) towards Telok Melano. The trail passes through picturesque bays and white sandy beaches, with opportunities to spot wildlife such as pig-tailed macaques and Bornean bearded pigs.
This small-group tour overnight includes meals that are packed as well as locally cooked by your guide, ie. 2 local lunches, 1 breakfast and 1 dinner. This tour can be affected by changing weather and tidal conditions. With safety in mind, some activities are subject to weather conditions and may be reorganized to best meet operational situations.
