What You'll Do

After pickup from your city hotel, get ready for an unforgettable journey to one of Kuching’s most iconic cultural treasures, the Annah Rais Longhouse. Nestled about 60 km from the city, the scenic 90-minute drive sets the tone for an authentic Borneo adventure.

Before reaching the longhouse, we’ll stop at a local market, where vibrant stalls overflow with fresh produce, spices, jungle vegetables, tropical fruits, and traditional snacks. It’s the perfect chance to soak in the sights, smells, and flavors of village life and discover the ingredients that make Bidayuh cuisine so unique. We’ll enjoy a local coffee at one of the stalls and learn about the unique “kopi” terms used in this part of the world.

We then continue to Annah Rais, a remarkable living village that has stood for over 200 years. Built almost entirely from jungle-sourced wood and bamboo, this sprawling longhouse is home to more than 80 families. With your local guide, you’ll uncover the fascinating heritage of the Land Dayaks, from their storied past as headhunters to their long-preserved communal traditions. Learn about the longhouse’s ingenious architecture, traditional farming practices, and the strong sense of community that defines Bidayuh culture.

A highlight of the visit is stepping into the sacred room, where ancient human skulls are still kept and revered, an extraordinary glimpse into a tradition rarely seen by outsiders. You’ll then be welcomed by one of the host families to enjoy freshly cooked bamboo chicken and wild jungle vegetables served on the tanju (patio) of the longhouse, a true taste of Bidayuh hospitality!

After this enriching cultural encounter, return to the carpark for your transfer back to the hotel, taking with you unforgettable memories of Sarawak’s indigenous heritage.
