Another wonderful cycle trip around Kuching with the very impressive Farhah. She made the trip as the guides do. She was knowledgeable, friendly, competent and made our half day very memorable. My second trip with this company; I learnt more than before. To have a local, passionate about Sarawak and her culture is priceless. Bikes were good and temp super. Finding hidden gems and eating with locals , made the experience special. Thank you Farhar and thank you to all.

What You'll Do
09:00: Pickup from Kota Kinabalu. The drive up the Crocker Range offers sweeping views of the valleys below.
11:00: Tambunan Town Exploration. Visit the local Tamu (market). Your guides will help you pick out local snacks for the trail.
12:00: Traditional Lunch in town before transferring to the village trailhead.
13:30: The Trek Begins. Meet your Dusun Rangers and organize your gear (see Note on Luggage below). Start the 3.5km trek to the first camp.
The Challenge: This is a steep 700m ascent from the village to the ridge. It’s a rewarding climb that takes you from lowland heat into the cooler mountain air.
17:00: Camp 1. Set up your tents on the ridge. Learn the art of fire-making in the humid tropics using natural resin and tree branches.
Night: Dinner by the Fire. A short night walk follows to experience the “symphony” of the jungle—a dense chorus of cicadas and nocturnal life.
08:30: Early Breakfast cooked by your guides. Once on the ridge, the terrain becomes relatively flat, allowing for a rhythmic pace through ancient primary rainforest.
12:00: Jungle Lunch. Your rangers will demonstrate survival skills, such as identifying edible plants and traditional forest navigation.
14:00: The Hidden Waterfall. Arrive at a private oasis deep in the woods. Spend the afternoon soaking in cool, mountain-fed streams—the perfect natural massage for trekking muscles (might not be available during the dry season).
Evening: Set up Camp 2. Enjoy a meal cooked over an open flame, sharing stories with your guides about their ancestral connection to these hills.
08:00: Trek Out. Prepare for a steep descent from the ridge. As the forest thins, the beautiful patchwork of the Tambunan valley opens up beneath you.
11:30: Village Arrival. Check into your Hillside Hut. This simple, private 1-room home is perched on a slope with a stunning view of the morning mist and evening sunsets.
Note: Camping (provided) is also available on the grounds next to the house as the 1-room home is limited and for those who prefer the fresh air.
15:00: Afternoon of Rest. Sip local tea on your balcony and soak in the silence of village life.
18:00: Community Gathering. Walk to the village hall for a social evening.
The Feast: A spread of Dusun delicacies and seasonal forest greens.
The Culture: Sample artisanal boutique wines crafted in the village. Experience the smooth, sweet notes of traditional Rice Wine (Lihing) and the spicy, warming kick of Ginger Wine, a Tambunan specialty. This “happy hour” is filled with conversation, laughter, and traditional Dusun dance and singing.
08:30: Farm Visit. Join a local family at their Kebun (forest garden). See how they manage their fish ponds, and learn how ginger and highland vegetables are grown in harmony with the surrounding forest.
10:30: Harvest & Cook. Help pick ingredients for your final meal. You’ll learn traditional seasoning techniques and the secrets of Dusun home cooking.
13:00: Final Community Lunch. Enjoy a “Table to Farm” feast featuring the freshest ingredients harvested that morning.
14:00: Departure from Tambunan for the return journey.
16:00: Arrival in Kota Kinabalu, refreshed by the mountain air and the spirit of the Crocker Range.

Good to Know
The Village Sanctuary
This village sits within a protected water catchment area, serving as a vital source for the entire region. Because of this protected status, the surrounding primary forest remains exceptionally well-preserved and dense. The local community has practiced organic farming, strictly avoiding chemicals to protect their water sources, resulting in some of the cleanest and most flavorful produce in Sabah.
Accommodation & Logistics
The Jungle (Days 1-2): We provide sturdy tents or hammocks. It is rustic, authentic, and immersive.
The Hillside House (Day 3): A charming wooden hut with running water and solar power and shared toilet facilities. It prioritizes the view and the natural mountain breeze. The room can accommodate 2 people, and a tent will be provided for additional participants.
The Trek: This is a physically demanding trek. Expect a steep 1,000m climb on Day 1 and a steep descent on Day 3. Good hiking boots with a strong grip are essential for the clay-based trails.
The Food & Drink: Every meal from Day 3 onwards is sourced locally from the village farms, ponds, and local wine-makers.
Note on Luggage: We recommend guests pack a smaller backpack specifically for the 3 days of trekking. Large suitcases or bulky luggage can be safely left at a designated storage area in the village before you begin the ascent.
See What Our Guests Are Saying
I went on a great walking food tour with Delilah, who was an excellent guide. In addition to eating all manner of interesting goodies, from restaurants, street vendors and hawker courts, Delilah gave us a great historical and cultural look at Kuching too. Highly recommended. Skip breakfast and come empty!
This is my second trip to Kuching and my second time booking day trips with Paradesa and they did not disappoint. On this trip, I had my 8 year old and my 70++ parents with me and we did the Semenggoh Orangutan Sanctuary & Annah Rais Longhouse Day trip and the Wetlands Cruise. On each occasion, the guides assigned were helpful, informative and attentive to our varying needs (young and elderly both taken care of).
