Itinerary

Embark on an unforgettable journey to Niah National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Borneo’s tropical rainforest. Home to Asia’s oldest human remains, dating back 40,000 years, this park offers a full day trip from Miri. Explore impressive cave chambers, marvel at ancient history, and witness traders using ladders to collect birds’ nests from cave walls – one of the world’s most dangerous jobs.

  1. Departure from Miri City: Embark on a 2-hour journey from Miri city to Niah National Park.
  2. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, cross the Niah River by motorized boat to visit the park gallery showcasing archaeological work since 1954.
  3. Trekking to Trader’s Cave: Begin a 3km trek along an elevated plank walk, discovering tropical flora and fauna, before reaching Trader’s Cave, where traders once conducted their bird nest and guano business.
  4. Great Cave Exploration: Venture into the Great Cave, a colossal structure over 60m high and 250m wide, offering spectacular views of the surrounding jungle.
  5. Moon Cave: Navigate the dark passage of Moon Cave with a flashlight, emerging into daylight before a short forest pathway leads to Painted Cave.
  6. Painted Cave: View ancient cave paintings and the remains of death-ships behind the fenced-off burial site.
  7. Return Trek: Retrace your steps back to the park headquarters.
  8. Lunch in Niah Town: Enjoy a local lunch (at your own expense) in the town of Niah.
  9. Return to Miri City: After lunch, drive back to Miri city (estimated arrival at Miri around 1600hrs – 1700hrs).

  • We recommend guests wear long sleeves and light clothing like sport clothes
