What You'll Do

At 11:00am, meet and greet upon arrival at Sandakan Airport and transfer to Sepilok. Enjoy lunch before visiting two of Borneo’s most renowned wildlife conservation centres: – Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre – Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (afternoon feeding session). Observe rescued orangutans and sun bears in their natural forest environment while learning about ongoing conservation efforts. After the visit, transfer to your accommodation and check in. Overnight stay at Tanini Sepilokt, or similar.

Meals: Lunch.

Enjoy breakfast at 7:30 hrs before overland transfer toward Telupid, with a lunch stop (the last town before the remote forest). At 14:00 hrs, begin your exciting 3-4 hour 4WD journey into the Deramakot Forest Reserve, with transition from roadside forest to primary dipterocarp jungle. This 70km stretch of sometimes bumpy, muddy roads serves as your initial Night Drive, offering early chances to spot wildlife. Check into your twin room with an attached bathroom. After dinner at 20:00, take an introductory nocturnal night Safari drive ending around 23:00. Overnight at Deramakot Park Accommodation.

At 07:00 hrs, get ready for an intensive day! Your visit is maximized with a three-hour morning safari drive. In the afternoon at 16:00, continue the adventure with an extended six-hour combination of afternoon and night drives, with your return expected around 22:00 hrs. Dinner will be served either before or after the safari depending on wildlife activity and sightings. The day’s focus will be searching for the iconic Wild Orang Utan, Bornean Gibbons, and Maroon Langur – Borneo’s unique trio of primates – along with exotic birds. As dusk settles, you’ll be on the open-top 4WD truck with your guide, dedicated to finding elusive wild cats and other nocturnal creatures. (Recommended: rain jacket, headlamp, water, BINOCULARS, insect repellent, camera; wear earth-colored long pants, short-sleeve shirt, and hiking shoes). Overnight at Deramakot Park Accommodation.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Check out at 07:00 hrs and depart to Petronas mile 32 (approximately 3 hours) to catch the connecting transfer to River Kinabatangan (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes). Check into your riverside accommodation (twin or double bed). At 16:00 hrs, embark on a two-hour river cruise in search of diverse wildlife. After Dinner at 19:00 hrs, join a guided night walk to discover nocturnal creatures inhabiting the surrounding forest. Overnight stay at Tanini Kinabatangan Resort, or similar.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Your day begins with a two-hour morning cruise at 06:00 hrs. Breakfast at 08:00 hrs, followed by free leisure time. Lunch at 12:00 hrs. At 16:00 hrs, enjoy another two-hour afternoon cruise. Following dinner, embark on a second guided night walk using a different trail, which provides opportunities to encounter a new variety of nocturnal species. Overnight stay at Tanini Kinabatangan Resort, or similar.

Take a final morning river cruise to see more birds and wildlife at 06:00 hrs before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Check-out is at 08:15 hrs to get ready for departure back to Sandakan and drop off to Sandakan airport for your departure flight out. Recommended flight departure: After 14:00hrs.

Our wildlife guides are from the local villages and more than willing to share their knowledge of local culture and the remarkable diversity of local fauna and flora.

We want you to have plenty of information about your journey in this beautiful natural area, and at the same time ensure safety and great FUN in this remote area!

Good to Know
  • Age restriction: All participants must be aged 7 and over
  • A moderate level of fitness is required
  • Accommodation: Standard rooms with private bathroom. The park-style accommodation is basic.
  • The standard time of transfer schedule is stated in the description (any request for an early or late checkout, there will be an additional surcharge for unscheduled transfer, subject to availability, and additional lunch, for a late checkout, please contact us for rates)
  • We recommend guests bring your own refillable water bottles and avoid using one-off plastic water bottles.
  • During our tours, we recycle wherever possible, and try to keep our waste as low as possible. We discourage the use of plastic bags, and suggest that you bring your own dry bag or small waterproof backpack.
