What You'll Do
We pick you up from the hotel and drive 40 minutes to the scenic jetty of Kampong Bako. From the jetty, you will take a 25-minute boat ride to the national park headquarters, situated in the Bako Peninsula. Bako is one of the best places in Sarawak to see wildlife in its natural surroundings, including Borneo’s signature long-nose proboscis monkeys, long-tailed macaques, wild boars (bearded pig), snakes, and monitor lizards.
There are several trails inside the park depending on the group’s level of fitness and interest. The 16-square kilometers of forests are home to seven distinct ecosystems including beach vegetation, mangroves, and a peat swamp forest. Constant erosion over millions of years has turned the Bako coastline into a stunning geographical landmark with spectacular cliffs, sea stacks, and pristine sandy beaches.
This small-group tour includes a local lunch which is served at the national park canteen before the return boat trip back to the mainland. The boat trip offers more opportunities for wildlife spotting including estuary crocodiles and shorebirds. The day ends with a transfer back to your city hotel after reaching Kampong Bako jetty.
This adventure will start with a visit to the wonderful Semenggoh Orangutan Sanctuary as feeding time approaches. Enclosed in a large area of lush rainforest, it is home to endangered orangutans who have been rescued from captivity and are now part of a successful rehabilitation program. In response to the calls of the resident park rangers during the scheduled feeding time, these amazing primates descend from the canopy to the lower branches of trees, near the feeding area and offer us the chance to see them at fairly close quarters, which, for many, is the wildlife highlight of their Borneo trip.
After feeding time, we continue our journey to one of the few remaining Bidayuh tribe’s longhouses in Kuching, the Annah Rais Longhouse. The longhouses are home to over 80 families and boast a history of 200 years of existence. Explore this living Bidayuh village with your local guide and learn about the culture of the Dayaks who were once headhunters. Step into the sacred room old human skulls are still worshipped, before visiting one of the local establishments for a sip of its famous rice wine, ‘tuak’.
After saying goodbye to the longhouse, we take another quick transfer to the start of the kayaking adventure. Float down an untouched stretch of the Sarawak River to discover hidden waterfalls, explore limestone formations, and take the opportunity to have a dip in the refreshing mountain water. At the halfway mark, drop by a Bidayuh tribe’s village to explore how the locals farm and fish. You can try to cross the village’s scary looking suspension bridge that the local community still uses for their everyday activities. Lunch is served here by the river.
After lunch, continue to paddle leisurely and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the rainforest. This serene and smooth flowing river is a great place for friends and family to compete in races and water fights! When water levels permit, stop at a mini waterfall for swimming and river fish feeding before ending the kayaking tour at the Kampong Semadang.
Mountain Biking Gold Mine & Cave Discovery (Off-Road Jungle or On-Road Country Ride)
Off-Road:
Discover the off-road jungle trails of a historical gold mining town! Cycle through the rocky rainforest terrain leading to the oldest gold mines in Sarawak.
Visit Kuching’s most famous caves, The Wind & Fairy Caves, walk through the dark caverns where you can see the bats hanging from the ceiling of the cave as well as searching for swiftlet bird nests on the cave walla! Then head off-road to discover some hidden gold mines whilst tackling some of the rocky trails leading us to our halfway point for refreshments and a visit to the impressive Fairy Caves. After the caves, it’s off-road again to experience the challenging up and downhill of the rainforest trails! We will then load up our bikes and head off to town for a well-deserved lunch.
On-Road:
Discover the joy of cycling through the beautiful Borneo countryside with a visit to a historical gold mining town and Kuching’s most famous caves. After a scenic 45 minutes car trip, ride off to our first stop – the Wind Caves and walk through the dark caverns where you will spot both bats and the nests of swiftlet birds! Then head off on a gentle gravel road to discover hidden gold mines and visit the impressive Fairy Caves chambers. Next, ride to a mystical cave with a Buddha statue to pray for your future fortunes and destiny. This trail takes you through a variety of exciting terrain including untouched tropical forest, winding ravines, natural bamboo garden, and challenging rooty downhills. Best of all, take on the challenge of many river crossings by riding across suspended bridges, or carrying your bike over bamboo and log bridges. Stop for a breather during the ride and open up your senses to the tropical jungle: listen for the call of tropical birds; observe the busy life of insects and small jungle animals; and discover the great variety of wild exotic plants such as pitcher plants, wild ginger, and the abundant tropical fruits.
After all the exertion through the jungle, take a cool dip in a gentle flowing river for a well-deserved break, before heading for lunch at a century-old town to try out some exotic local food!

See What Our Guests Are Saying
I am a first-timer and the trail was slippery from the rainy season but our tour guide, Francis was being so cautious and helpful throughout. We enjoyed every minute of it.
Booked the jungle ride experience, and it was very enjoyable, plenty of technical off-road riding, crossing streams and riding through single track trails that were tough, if you like an adventure it’s a must, our guides were really friendly and took us for a lovely meal after, if you like adventure this is a trip worth booking.
